THE MICHAEL N. HALIKIS SCHOLARSHIP
Evangelia Lazaris was born in Los Angeles to two Greek parents. Her family originates from Nafpaktos, Patras, and Athens. She was raised speaking Greek in the home and expanded her knowledge of the culture and language through yearly visits to Greece, as well as by attending St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox School. I was baptized Efrosini Marjorie Bacol at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach, California. As both my parents are first generation Greek Americans, I spent my childhood immersed in the Greek Orthodox culture and faith.
