Biography
Doctor Lawrence Mihalas
For nearly 40 years as a physician and 35 years as a practicing allergist, medicine has been a life of study, service, and devotion for Doctor Lawrence Mihalas. The doctor has seen over 75,000 new patients over the past many years. As a graduate of the UCLA School of Medicine and the Intern and Residency Program of the Los Angeles Country General Hospital, Doctor Mihalas was asked to join the Fellowship Training Program at the National Asthma Center at Denver, Colorado. Returning to Los Angeles in 1978, he began to practice at the Allergy & Asthma Center Medical Group.
Doctor Lawrence Mihalas is a board certified physician. He is certified by the American Board of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, which is a conjoint Board of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. He has served as an active contributing member of numerous local, state and national organizations and societies. He is a past president of the Bay Area of the Los Angeles County Medical Association, past president of the California Society of Allergy and Immunology, Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology(AAAAI), Fellow of the American College Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology(ACAAI), past member of the Board of Regents of the ACAAI, past Treasurer of the ACAAI, past Treasurer, Vice-President, and President of the Foundation of the ACAAI, a past member of the Board of Directors and past Treasurer of the Joint Council of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and an Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus at the UCLA School of Medicine.
Doctor Mihalas has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards over the past many years. In November 2000, the doctor was the recipient of the “Distinguished Fellow Award” presented by the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. In November 2004, he was honored with the “Distinguished Service Award” presented by the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. In December 2011 and in 2012, the doctor was named as a “Super Doc” in the Los Angeles Magazine. The Wallstreet Journal also distinguished him as a “Super Doc” in their publication. In March 2012, Doctor Mihalas was selected as a “Top Allergist/Immunologist in Los Angeles, California” by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals. In 2012, US News and World Report listed the doctor as a “Top Doctor,” in the top 10% in his specialty, in the western region of the U.S.
The experienced health care professional and the patient, together, make healing happen. Working nearly 45 years in the medical community as a registered nurse, Sharon Mihalas is experienced, talented, sensitive, and very helpful. Over the past recent years she has attended more than 30 national allergy educational meetings and, on a regular basis, participates in continuing nursing education activities. Amy Lee and Van Au are also long time staff members. Skilled and able to deal with most office connected issues, they see that the office runs smoothly and remain available to help when needed. The patients consistently comment that the office staff is friendly, kind, and always helpful.
