Biography

Dr. Roumanas completed her BS degree at UCLA and received her DDS degree from Northwestern University, Chicago.  Postgraduate training included General Practice Residency (UCLA 1989), Advanced Prosthodontics Residency (UCLA/VAMC 1991), Maxillofacial Prosthetics Residency (UCLA 1992).  She joined the faculty at UCLA School of Dentistry in 1992 as Assistant Professor and Director of Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the City of Hope National Medical Center.  In 1995 she was awarded a mid-career Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology.  She served as Chair of the Section of Removable Prosthodontics from 2002-2006, Co-Director of Maxillofacial Prosthetics from 1995-2010 and Director of Advanced Prosthodontics  2006-2012.

Dr. Roumanas is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a fellow of the Academy of Prosthodontics.   She was elected and has served on the Board of Directors for the American College of Prosthodontists and the International Society for Maxillofacial Rehabilitation.  Dr. Roumanas currently serves on the Editorial Review Boards for the Journal of Prosthodontics and the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.

Research Interests:

Deformities of the head and neck region resulting from cancer treatment, congenital malformation and traumatic injuries can be devastating on physical structure and function and frequently result in severe compromise in quality of life.  Rehabilitation is currently a complex process best achieved through a multidisciplinary approach combining advanced surgical and prosthetic reconstructive procedures.  Our goal at the Weintraub Center is to evaluate the outcomes of these treatments through randomized clinical trials and develop new approaches that will further push the envelope.  Dr. Roumanas’ research focuses primarily on clinical outcomes in implant prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthetics.

Dr. Roumanas a member of the Oral Rehabilitation Outcomes Network (ORONet).  An international multicenter group focused on standardized and comprehensive evaluation of comparative effectiveness of therapies of oral rehabilitation.
